All Class From Bold Arial

Talented 3yo I Am Invincible filly Bold Arial proved she was just too good when breaking her maiden at Bairnsdale on Melbourne Cup Day with the ease of what looked no more than a track gallop.

Bold Arial

Bold Arial jumped well and led the field from start to finish with jockey Aaron Mitchell judging the pace perfectly in front before letting her stroll to the line to win with ease.

Having her second start in Victoria for trainers Ciaron Maher and David Eustace, Bold Arial was sent to Bairnsdale with the sole aim of giving her as easy a win as possible. She has always been a filly with above average ability which she showed throughout her 2yo season with two very close 2nds behind subsequent Stakes Winners along with two luckless runs at Stakes level in Sydney including a 4th in the Group 3 Widden Stakes.

However, she has been a filly who has had a few soundness issues while also been a bit hot to handle with her pre race behaviour which she displayed when first up at Tatura. Ciaron and David made the decision to send her to their beach stable to get the filly’s mind settled while also helping to manage some niggling issues and second-up at Bairnsdale she presented a far different, happier filly who was able to showcase what she was made of.

“Great to finally get her head in front” said co-trainer David Eustace. “She was given a great, positive ride from Aaron which paid off nicely as she won well. Most importantly, she relaxed so much better pre race. She’s a filly who’s shown us she’s got very good ability but she has a habit of running her race before getting to the gates so to see her relax like that Tuesday was great.”

“We appreciate everyone’s patience to get that first win. Changing her routine around to the beach stable life has really helped us manage her attitude and soundness and hopefully now that gives her the confidence to go on with it.”

FLR’s Sam Kilkenny took a rare day off the Flemington carnival to make the trek down to Bairnsdale on Cup day to be there for the win and was full of praise for the filly we’ve always held a high opinion of.

Bold Arial

“Well done to Ciaron, David and their team and also to the effort of Kevin down at the beach, and Jodi assisting in her remedial work. We told everyone we were desperate to make her a winner for confidence purposes and breeding value, and it was worth searching far and wide for the right race. Always nice to have a winner on Melbourne Cup day; whether it be Flemington or Bairnsdale! And hopefully that’s not the last time she coasts to an easy win!”

Bold Arial has recovered well from her win and we’ll now look to send her back to town where she belongs for either a 1200m Benchmark 64 or 70 Handicap at Moonee Valley on 1st December.
