Alpine Dancer

The "Sleeping Giant" is well and truly waking and owners have plenty to be excited about after the Rob Heathcote trained ALPINE DANCER stormed home again at Doomben on Saturday in quick time to take out the 3yo QTIS Handicap over 1615m, and this was following his maiden win in a midweek Class 1 Three Year Old Plate again Doomben 10 days before.

Given a beautiful ride from jockey Dale Smith, Alpine took up his usual position in the second half of the small field before Dale let him start building his momentum from about the 800m onwards. He hit the front early at the top of straight and let down with a big turn of foot again to the line but he had to fight for it. The opposition came at him late but he continued to dig deep to socre his second win by 0.2 lengths.

Alpine Dancer & Dale Smith

"An excellent Saturday metro win against proven quality horses. I’ve always had a healthy opinion of this lad but I feel going forward we will be better served giving him a break now. Dale confirmed in his post race summary that A D is still quite green and raw and he is not fully letting down and he recommended looking after him now” said trainer Rob Heathcote.

Alpine Dancer owners

"Yes, I know it may surprise a few of you but this horse has not fully matured physically yet or mentally so a break now will do wonders for him and we can attack some more juicy qtis races next preparation. Great stuff from a young horse with a bright future”
