Resurge surges into the Spring!

3YO So You Think colt RESURGE – a half-brother to Group 1 winner SINGLE GAZE – announced himself as a genuine Spring contender with an impressive first-up win that has his owners #derbydreaming

The blueblood colt was FLR's most expensive yearling last season making $250,000 at the Magic Millions in January but he went some way to rewarding his owners with a dominant first-up win.

Well supported from $3.50 into $2.70, the son of So You Think was given a lovely ride form barrier 1 by Luke Currie and despite a bold showing from the well known REPOSITION - a full brother to FLR's KACHING - the win was dominant in the end and signalled better races were in store for the raw talent.

"He's always shown nice ability and he's got plenty of scope so we'll plot a path to the Derby with him and see how high he can go" said Tony McEvoy's stable foreman Michael Shepardson

Tony was similarly full of praise to owners in his post race report.

"He won very impressively! Gee he returned nicely like a very nice horse which we've thought of this fella for a long time. We could have a lot of fun with this fella going forward and I'll set a program for him now for that first Saturday in November"

There were plenty of signs to suggest Resurge might be one out of the box. He became FLR's 3rd winner from 3 runners with Tony McEvoy with the previous two being FLR Racehorse Of The Year nominee Scottish Rogue and the 6-length maiden winner Black Champagne. He was also FLR's 3rd winner by the 10-time Group 1 winner So You Think joining 4-time winner Kaching and dual winner Omorse and the team now boasts a stable of 6 So You Think youngsters with a particularly impressive unraced brigade.

Of course, being a half-sister to warhorse Single Gaze is also a huge plus for this colt.

Resurge will head to a 1600m race in a few weeks time before stepping-up to Stakes grade in the Listed Morphettville Guineas early next month. Fingers crossed that's the first of many Stakes opportunities for the #sonofagun this Spring and who knows he could make this year's FLR Derby Day Eve Luncheon the best ever if he's able to secure a start in the time honoured classic the following day.
