King Kabuto made the 3-hour round trip to Sale on Sunday worth it for owners teaming up with Craig Williams to knock off his maiden title so early into his career!

King Kabuto

The 3YO son of Helmet drew a perfect gate and with the combination of top jockey Craig Williams he was given an absolute peach of a ride to victory.

“With blinkers on, he should show he is too good for the field” Craig mentioned before his race and that he was.

Post race Williams added “the further he goes the better he’ll be for you all. He won comfortably today, I needed to keep his mind on the job throughout and while it got close late that was moreso because he lost sight of his opposition and thought the job was done”.

“For a horse like him who is still learning his trade and doing plenty wrong, to knock off his maiden win this early in his career is a massive effort!” FLR’s Catherine O’Dea.

King Kabuto was a $60,000 2016 Magic Millions purchase for the stable and became FLR’s fifth consecutive 3YO maiden winner from Magic Millions Sales joining Rebel Saga ($40,000 – MM QTIS), Love And Rock It ($25,000 – MM QTIS), Karmonaaron ($36,000 – MM Tasmania) and Grande Vitesse ($135,000 – Magic Millions) as emerging 3YOs for the team.

King Kabuto had a massive run the start earlier to finish 2nd at Cranbourne under lights that really started to make the racing crowds notice him – and they clearly did as we went into Sunday’s race a favourite.

‘The King’ has a nice big group of owners with some even hailing from overseas who we are sure will enjoy many victories together in the future. They include terrific long term clients as well as some fresh faces to the stable who’ll enjoy a terrific ride now with their King.
