An emerging son of High Chaparral, Rapido Chaparro did what not many can do and won on debut. Not an easy task - particularly over 1500m and at metropolitan level - but a task made easy with the polish of Gai Waterhouse!
The Inglis Easter yearling purchase was touted a "Derby prospect" when purchased and he comprises a terrific group of owners many of whom got involved in 'Rapido' via the 2016 FLR Derby Day Eve Luncheon.
Well after his all the way win on debut - the Derby dream is well and truly alive as we expect Rapido Chaparro to take enormous benefit from his maiden win. A long time favourite of trainer Gai Waterhouse he will head to Flemington on New Year's Day and hopefully a trip to NSW is on the horizon for the Autumn Carnival.

"What a sensational debut from Rapido Chaparro" said Trainer Gai Waterhouse.
"It was a tough ask over the 1500 metres first up, but we know this gelding will get over a trip and he really fought to the line well.
"He will only improve from the run and as he gets over further in time, but we have a handy stayer on our hands and it's onwards and upwards from here."
A huge group of owners were on hand to cheer home Rapido Chaparro many of whom were enjoying their first foray into racehorse ownership. Apprentice Zac Spain gave him a lovely ride and while it got tight late it was clear to his owners he'd scored on debut and those on course erupted in celebration.
"Really tough win. He jumped well and just got going a bit early so I let him roll to the front where he was comfortable" said Zac Spain post race.
"We were able to dictate terms from there and he showed great fight to win on debut. He's a really nice stayer in the making and what a start to his career."
The celebrations kicked on into the Mornington Winning Owners Room where FLR's Catherine O'Dea thanked all owners many of which have shared a special journey to this point with FLR's "CODy"
"It was terrific to share the celebrations with Christine Greenhatch and her crew who are owners of 'Zinc' and we met via the 2016 Luncheon" said Catherine. "That was special for everyone involved as it was to share our first winner with John 'Werty' Wertfein who finally enjoys the thrills of victory after joining the stable a few years ago"
"They are just two stories amongst the many stories owners in Rapido share and we look forward to a fantastic owner group continuing to enjoy the ride with their talented boy"
A special win for connections and its onwards and upwards into an exciting Autumn campaign from here.
