Overstay delivers tough win for patient owners

Street Cry mare Overstay partnered with FLR favourite Linda Meech to produce a tough return win in her first race campaign since injury.

Overstay

Having shown plenty during her 3-year-old campaign, Overstay looked set the hit her straps during her Autumn 3-year-old season when she unfortunately sustained a serious tendon injury that saw her miss 14 months of racing.

She took a little time to regain her confidence but hopefully a long road for her and her owners took a turn in the right direction on Saturday with her second career win. She was perfectly placed by the Ellerton Zahra boys and Linda Meech did the rest.

Overstay

Overstay is a cracking type of mare that was a $230,000 yearling back in 2014 and when she broke her maiden in style in the 2015 Spring she looked to set to deliver on her potential. Racing can be a cruel leveller however and at her next start she suffered severe interference in the Listed UCI Stakes at Flemington that ended her Spring.

She lost confidence from that race and just when she looked ready to recapture form in the Autumn injury struck and its been a long road back from her owners. That hasn't dampened their passion for her and she was cheered home with great relief on Saturday.

Overstay

The win was the 7th winner for the Linda Meech and FLR stable from Linda's last 12 rides and she's definitely a favourite of the stable #lifespeachywithmeechy

"She was great" said Linda post race "She jumped well and without great speed in the race she was able to sit second where she relaxed and travelled comfortably"

"Hopefully she can take plenty from that win because you could tell she was tense pre race"

Overstay will now be given her chance in better grade over the coming months and Mares that find form can often keep improving so hopefully there's more wins in store for Overstay and her owners.
