Talented Savabeel 3YO colt Black Sail began his Spring campaign in style with an impressive first-up win over 1100m.
Having been tried twice at metropolitan level as a 2YO - including in the Group 2 Sires Produce on Super Saturday - the blueblood colt made his country debut over 1100m on Monday. The full brother to Caulfield Guineas Prelude winner Eclair Big Bang, Black Sail is bred to excel out to a mile and beyond, however, he showed his class with a dominant display over the shorter journey.

The upside of Black Sail not only lays in the fact he won over 1100m despite being bred to get further but also in the post race comments of jockey Luke Nolen
"He won well but he wandered around a bit late. I really expected he'd seize authority late but he was just a bit casual and didn't quite savage the line"
Not bad feedback on a colt that won by 1.5 lengths in dominant fashion and it shows the regard jockey and trainer hold him in.
"He's really open to improvement from that and I feel he'll be better suited on top of the ground as well"
Black Sail was a $170,000 Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling purchase and with last season's 3-Year-Olds featuring 10 individual winners combining for 19 wins from the 11 Class Of 2015 Inglis yearlings... its a great start for now 3-Year-Olds that were the Class Of 2016 Inglis crop!
"We might have to start buying yearlings exclusively from Inglis" joked FLR's Tim Wilson. "Luckily, the team's Magic Millions record isn't too dissimilar but there's no doubt the Inglis Premier crop of 2016 are exciting with Omorose looking a real talent and Arizona Belle and Fallen Empire both showing nice natural ability over at Flemington"
Black Sail carries a Caulfield Guineas nomination - and with that a Caulfield Classic nomination - but while that'll excite his owners the Winter feedback from owner and former trainer Peter Moody will be keeping everyone grounded (Black Sail spelled at Peter Moody's farm over the Autumn/Winter).
"Moods has told owners the whole way through he'll make a ripping Autumn 3YO so while we'll give him his opportunity in the Spring if he can make the necessary improvement, I don't think any owners will be too disappointed if he doesn't get there having now seen him win with real style.
"We'll take a bit of a back door path with him to Spring should that be how it plays out. He's still learning - he was given time in the naughty corner about a month ago after messing up a jumpout - and we'll continue to chase the easy options with him to ensure when his day comes he's ready to produce his best"
Black Sail is owned by a terrific owner group - including birthday boy Robin Gosden and many who met on the Rosemont Stud Winery Tour & Parade in May last year - and they all look set to enjoy a great ride together.
"We had a terrific day that day at Rosemont last year and judging by how well everyone got along there could be some famous nights in the future"
