SMART COUPE SIZZLES IN MILESTONE FLEMINGTON WIN
Star 2YO, Stakes performed 3YO and now 4YO SMART COUPE delivered a massive Flemington win on Saturday and in doing so took FLR's season prizemoney earnings over $1,000,000 through just over 4 months of racing
Having defied the odds throughout her career, the astute $22,000 Magic Millions purchase continued to amaze with her achievements adding a sizzling Flemington win to her resume that now includes 4 wins, twice at metropolitan level and an Oaks day Stakes placing that ensures she's got terrific residual value for her wonderful owners.
Jubilantly cheered on by her big group of owners, "Smarty" produced the fastest final 200m of the raceday to show how brilliant she can be when at her best.
"Sustained speed! Awesome result for her owners and we are so proud of her," said FLR's Tim Wilson.
"She's been a wonderful racehorse for her owners and despite her price on Saturday her dry track form is excellent and in her previous start down the straight she finished 3rd in a Group 3 as a 3-year-old"
"Hard to beat when they travel on speed and run home in 33.1 (last 600m), 22.1 (last 400m), 11.3 second sectionals"
She joins a growing list of stable stars including herself as a $22,000 purchase plus Aristia ($80,000), Linguist ($100,000), See Me Fly ($65,000), Nasdex ($185,000) and co., all purchased so affordably by #TeamFLR and syncing in perfectly with Mat Ellerton & Simon Zahra.
"While she was brilliant... I also loved the run of another FLR & Ellerton Zahra talent in Fallen Empire ($70,000) who himself produced incredible sectionals in finishing 3rd earlier in the day."
Thumbs Up: great reward for Damien Thornton on Saturday who has been integral to the FLR & EZR domination of the Spring & Summer
Smart Coupe was perfectly rated by Damien Thornton who was the hard luck story of the Spring when replaced by Damian Lane aboard Aristia but he's now piloted Smart Coupe to two wins this campaign amongst many excellent rides for the stable.
"So happy for Damien Thornton who rode Aristia her first three runs this campaign before Damian Lane took over but that wasn't through any fault of Damien's (Thornton). He's a terrific young rider and was one of the first to text the team after Aristia's Oaks win so it's special to be able to share one with him today."
Smart Coupe's win was #TeamFLR's 5th metropolitan winner of the season already and saw FLR stable prizemoney earnings burst through the $1,000,000 barrier after only 4 & 1/2 months of the season!! While Group 1 success helped the team are quick to point out it's the breadth of success that makes the season's early achievements so incredible.
"Take Aristia out and #TeamFLR have already won 10 races this season and have stable stars and quality racehorses across almost every stable," said FLR's Bloodstock Manager Ashleigh Dowley.
"Savvy Oak ($95,000 yearling) graduated to the Group 1 VRC Derby for Trent Busuttin & Natalie Young, Scottish Rogue ($45,000 yearling) was narrowly defeated at Listed level on Stakes Day after a stellar 2YO season for Tony McEvoy, Alpine Dancer ($41,000 yearling) is already a two-time Doomben winner in Queensland for Rob Heathcote and Black Sail ($170,000) continues to deliver for his owners and will eventually knock off a big one for Ciaron Maher & David Eustace."
Stars Across Every Stable: Black Sail (Maher & Eustace), Alpine Dancer (Heathcote), Scottish Rogue (McEvoy) and Savvy Oak (Busuttin Young)
"So while it's great to see Aristia, Smart Coupe, Linguist, Nasdex, See Me Fly and co dominate for Ellerton Zahra it's the success across all stables that makes everyone so proud and also responsible for many a Sunday morning headache."
With 12 winners already this season the team are hungrily chasing down last season's record 38 winners (following on from 34 winners the season before) and while Smart Coupe might have a big task to catch Aristia for FLR Racehorse Of The Year honours this season... who would deny the adorable Jess Starr back-to-back FLR Strapper Of The Year honours with her beaming smile a sight to behold at Flemington on Saturday. Super strapper Jess Starr beaming after her girl Smart Coupe delivered another Flemington success for the mighty Jess who was the story of the carnival last Spring with her Oaks Day heroine Linguist
Back to Smart Coupe and with over $180k now in prizemoney an Autumn return to Stakes level is on the cards (or even earlier!!!) as her and her owners continue to mix it with the best of the best despite her yearling price tag.
Congratulations to her owners: Damian Devola, Antonio Stathakis, Adrian Taranto, John Ashton, Steve Biviano, BBAH Racing (Shane Warbrick, Nicky Goddard, Mark Lanbridge, Stuart Lovell), Dean Higginbotham, Sharon Hunter, Geoff Mason, Lorice Hoskin, Leanne Hoskin, Wendy Rechter, Essendon Supers Syndicate (Andrew Nathan, Damian Heathcote, Michael Platt, Scott Thomson, Mark Tymms, Mario Todorov, Peter O'Dea, Mick O'Dea, Shane Crabb, Paul Cantra), Ross Brown, Paul Scott
