DERBY DREAMS STAY ALIVE

FOR SAVVY OAK!

FLR's SAVVY OAK put in yet another eye catching derby trial in Saturday's 2040m Group 2 Moonee Valley Vase!  After having to settle a long way back and then getting blocked for a run on the turn, Savvy Oak reeled off some quick closing sectionals to grab 4th.

This 3yo son of Savabeel is still putting the pieces together but he is no doubt impressing all with his natural ability and on the big Flemington stage this coming Saturday, #TeamFLR and trainers Trent Busuttin & Natalie Young are keeping all fingers and toes crossed to see him make the Group 1 VRC Derby field 🤞

Will he or won't he make it in?? There was no missing Savvy Oak's run on Saturday... And now the nerves are real!!!!

ARISTIA'S UNFINISHED BUSINESS

Aristia looks to shake off that maiden tag with a Group 2 win!
Savvy Oak will not be alone on Derby Day... Our  filly on the rise ARISTIA is set to tackle her last start foe again in the Group 2 Wakeful Stakes over 2000m.

She gave a big sight in the Group 3 Ethereal Stakes and Damian Lane sticks aboard so look out Flemington... she's coming back for unfinished business!

The Post Race Wrap-Up...

Get the post race low down on our leading Spring contenders!
Capeos
Result: WINNER in the 1650m Class 1 Handicap, Beaudesert - An excellent win from Capeos last week.  He drew wide, had to do work to get to the lead and still gave a great kick in the straight to hold on for the win.  He's taken plenty of time to mature but is now starting to show us he's a very capable galloper.

What A Shock (NZ)
Result: 9th in the 1200m Benchmark 70 Handicap, Geelong - A pleasing return from What A Shock last Wednesday.  He was never going to be best suited at the trip first up but we were pleased with how he hit the line, particularly over the last furlong.  He looks to be back on track for a return to winning form.

Black Champagne
Result: 3rd in the 1000m 3yo Benchmark 68 Handicap, Morphettville - Lovely return from our little dynamo Black Champagne on Saturday.  She began brilliantly, settled behind the pace and hit line strongly to just get pipped for 2nd.  She'll take good benefit from this race and should be tough to beat next start.

Black Sail
Result: 2nd in the 1500m Benchmark 84 Handicap, Moonee Valley - Terrific run from Black Sail under the Valley lights.  He led them along but just got a bit keen in the blinkers which didn't help him.  He still stuck on very well to the line beating the rest comfortably.  Onwards & upwards!

Nasdex
Result: 6th in the 955m Open Handicap, Moonee Valley - Not a bad return from Nasdex despite the expectation he would finish a bit closer.  He was beaten for early speed and in what seemed a leader dominated day, he stuck on well to the line having a good blow after the race so should only improve going into his next start.

Savvy Oak
Result: 4th in the 2040m Group 2 Moonee Valley Vase, Moonee Valley - See above

One's To Watch...

Spring is here!!
Sizzlesun
What's next: $23,000 1200m or 1450m Maiden, Kilmore, this Friday 24 October (TBC) - A horse that is knocking on the door for that first win.  He's taking time to mature but the raw ability is there.  There are a number of options around for him over the next week and we'll be looking to end that maiden tag.

Savvy Oak
What's next: $2,000,000 2500m Group 1 Victoria Derby @ Flemington, this Saturday 3 November - Need we say more?? Yep!!  Bred to stay the Derby distance and in good hands with trainers who know what it takes.  C'MON SAVVY!!! Get in the field!!

Aristia
What's next: $300,000 Group 2 Wakeful Stakes @ Flemington this Saturday 3 November - Can't wait to take on Verry Eleegant again on our home turf Saturday!  There is not much between the two.  Aristia was excellent for her first go over 2000m last start so should improve her second time around and Damian Lane sticks aboard. Tick, Tick, Tick!

DERBY DAY EVE IS NOW SOLD OUT!!
Can't wait to get Cup Week rocking with Daryl
