And boy wasn't it close!

Black Sail

A huge contingent of owners on course for Cranbourne Cup Day didn't know whether he'd won or been nosed out when Black Sail crossed the joy but fears he'd run another minor placing quickly turned to celebrations when the photo went up.

Black Sail

One of the stable stars of last Spring - Black Sail ran 2nd in three consecutive races on feature Spring days beginning at Flemington then Caulfield on Blue Sapphire Day then 2nd in a Listed 1800m 3YO race on Oaks Day. He rise through the ranks earned him a cracked at the Group 2 Sandown Guineas on the final day of the Spring Carnival where he finished 3rd behind Villemont and Peaceful State.

"He's given everyone a fantastic ride and with a slice more luck along the way he could have claimed a big one last Spring" said FLR's Catherine O'Dea

But that's racing - its a fine line between victory and defeat - and finally things went Black Sail's way on Sunday.

Black Sail

The Melbourne Premier Yearling purchase took his career earnings over $120k with the win and continue the hot run of form for new training partnership Ciaron Maher & David Eustace.

"I'm just thrilled for the owners as he's found a way to get beat a few times of late" said David. "Full credit to the team he's been flipped around between the beach and the farm and its a great result for everyone involved"

While David was on track and relieved for the owners post race... there was nobody cheering hard and celebrating longer than his strapper Carl Audino who absolutely loves Black Sail!

Black Sail

No surprises than it was Damian Lane who was again able to get the best out of an FLR galloper and continue his terrific success with the stable.

Black Sail will return to the big stage now and get his opportunity at Moonee Valley next Friday night before a return date with destiny on Oaks Day potentially awaits Black Sail and his army of owners.
