Happy As LARI

Love And Rock It made it a happy Australia Day for his owners with a dominant win at Doomben on Friday in the QTIS 3yo Maiden over 1200m... and didn't his owners celebrate!!!

The 3yo son of Love Conquers All who is affectionally known as Lari to the stable and owners, has always shown plenty of talent in his work and previous starts and owners were rewarded for their patience with a dazzling display to break his maiden by 3.25L eased down on Friday. Although at the top of the straight hearts were in mouths as Lari and leading QLD jockey Robbie Fradd found themselves in quite a bit of trouble on the fence with no where to go.

With some competitive riding and “don’t mess with me” attitude from Lari himself, Robbie pushed his way out of trouble while Lari pinned his ears back and bared all teeth at his opposer on the outside to get into the clear and from there it was easy watching as Lari pinned his ears back more and showed a sharp turn of foot to gather in the leader and take away the win.

There was no mucking about on the $1.65 favourite on Friday after he found all sorts of trouble from the carpark draw in the $250,000 Magic Millions Maiden and Lari won like the good horse we always felt he was to the massive celebrations of his huge owner group on track.

“Gee, he will be so much better over 1400m and maybe further” Robbie Fradd’s first words to owners on dismounting in the winners stall. “That was a very good win. He jumped ok but mustered speed quick enough and we got a lovely run midfield. He was travelling strongly into the turn and being a big horse we didn’t have much room to move. Byrne was keeping me in but we found a way out and he did the rest.”

Can't keep a good horse down! Lari pins the ears back and goes BANG!

Trainer Rob Heathcote said “Well that didn’t entirely go to plan today – firstly, Lari simply did not have a bar of me putting on his tongue tie pre race and then he was a shade slow away at the jump but the good draw enabled Robbie to get him into a good spot in the run."

"Byrne wasn’t going to let us out up the running but Fradd basically had no option but to push his way out, with Lari’s help mind you as he went to savage the horse on his outside!! Competitive racing no doubt but he was the best horse in the race and he got the job done!”

"We’re grateful for everyone’s patience to get him here. He always shown the ability but has taken some time to mature and learn the game. On debut he was super when 2nd at Caloundra and he was shin sore that day so his effort was full of merit. From there we set him for the big maiden on Magic Millions day but nothing went to plan that day with a horror draw and Lari getting into a bumping dual at the start. He finished off enormous from a long way back still so back to Doomben today and from a good draw with luck on our side, he was too good for them.”

A very astute buy for the FLR team, Lari was only a $25,000 purchase from the Magic Millions March QTIS Sale and from only 3 starts to date, he has nearly paid back his purchase price already thanks to his win on Friday and the added bonus of being QTIS nominated.

From a ripping yearling... to a ripping racehorse!

“He was our highest rated horse from the March QTIS sale and we thought we stole him at only $25k!” Said FLR’s Ashleigh Dowley. “He’s by a sire we have a lot of time for – we bought two Love Conquers All yearlings at that sale, Lari and Von Rosen, and we’ve secured two more in subsequent years with 2yo Retairius and a ripping colt this year out of the January Magic Millions.  They've just needed a bit of time but they've all shown above average ability.”

“We’re delighted Lari has been able to repay that patience to his owners so early in his race career. He’s an exciting young horse and I think his big group of owners are going to have plenty more fun with him!"

Lari has pulled up extremely well from his win and owners now look forward to chasing further QTIS riches into the Autumn.

"Looking at the racing schedule, we’ll aim him towards the Class 1 1350 at Ipswich on the 7th February, mid week metro Wednesday card. Not the ideal track for him but similar in lay out to Doomben and it sets him up for the Saturday 3 year old metro race at Doomben on the 24th Feb and that’s for the big bucks" said Rob.

"We have a nice progressive style of horse with this young fella. A good future awaits."
