Wowee!! Weekend Saga That Was Awesome

3YO Real Saga filly Weekend Saga produced arguably the most impressive win of the 2017/18 with a barnstorming last to first result under lights at the Sunshine Coast.

The $25,000 Magic Millions purchase win was the 2nd of her young career having scored a 2YO metropolitan win at her first campaign. That win was impressive - but Friday night was simply awesome - as Weekend Saga seemingly came from nowhere even catching the racecaller by surprise who now famously said

"Have a look at this with a blinder down the outside!”

The talented daughter of Real Saga is a quirky filly that first took owners by surprise with a dominant 4 length pre-Christmas 2YO jumpout win where she incredibly led all the way. Her racing pattern is now in complete contrast to that as a tendency to jump poorly has seen her settle at the back of the field in recent starts.

After running on boldly from the back last start over 1400m, trainer Rob Heathcote made the call to step Weekend Saga out to 1600m on Friday night and neither trainer, jockey or owners were absolutely convinced on pedigree she'd get a strong mile.

"She has yet to race over the 1600 mtrs so I guess an air of caution until she does it successfully but her last run suggests she will get it" said Rob in her Pre Race Report to owners but Weekend Saga left nobody in doubt after the race with a dominant 1.5 length win.

"I loved the way she travelled in the run and particularly the way she cruised up to the lead. It was a good strong win. Absolutely no issues going up to the 1600 mtrs and she hit the line strongly" said a jubilant trainer post race.

Post race talk was now whether she could stretch out to 1800m at metropolitan level in 3 weeks time, however, with a 2YO win over 1200m and now a 3YO win over 1600m there's no questioning the adaptability of Weekend Saga who has already doubled her purchased price in prizemoney after only 7 career starts.

A big group were there on Friday night to cheer Weekend Saga home and the popular filly is giving her owners a great ride.

"WooHoo!! Well done all - what a win tonight by Weekend Saga" said FLR's Ashleigh Dowley. "A nice early Christmas present for you all too with the QTIS bonus tonight - a big win, congrats and enjoy the celebrations"
